Composite Fillings
- Avoid eating or drinking before the anesthesia wears off
- Tenderness to cold, warmth, pressure, and airflow is normal
- Rinse with warm salt water (gums may be sore)
- Take over the counter pain medication
- Resume regular brushing and flossing immediately to prevent decay
Crowns and Bridges
- Do not chew on that side for two weeks
- Floss through the side gently (but do not floss for the first 48 hours)
- Do not test a bite on the crown or bridge to avoid dislocating it
- Brush gently
- Rinse teeth and gums with warm salt water for ten seconds once a day
- Lingering discomfort may need a root canal
Root Canal Post-Operative Care and Pain Control
- Do not chew, touch, tap, or bite on the affected tooth until a follow-up visit
- Do not floss
- Brush gently daily
- Rinse each day for ten seconds with warm salt water
- Take the prescribed pain medication
Scaling and Root Planing
- Monitor sensitivity and swelling for a few days
- Do not smoke for at least one week
- Rinse with salt water after one week
- Only eat soft foods within the first 48 hours
